To mark World Kidney Day 2025, the Eso Kidney Alive Foundation partnered with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Edo State to deliver a high-impact health outreach focused on kidney disease prevention, early detection, and public awareness.
The event brought together healthcare professionals, volunteers, and members of the public in a shared effort to promote healthier communities and encourage proactive kidney care.
The collaboration between Eso Kidney Alive Foundation and UBTH highlights the power of partnerships in addressing one of the growing health challenges in Nigeria—kidney disease.
As part of the initiative, the foundation provided essential screening tools and testing kits to support a smooth and effective screening exercise. This contribution helped ensure that participants received quality health checks in a well-organized and accessible environment.
During the outreach, more than 200 individuals were screened, giving many people the opportunity to understand their health status and identify possible risk factors early.
Kidney disease often progresses silently, with little or no symptoms in its early stages. Without regular checkups, many people may not know they are at risk until the condition becomes severe.
The screening exercise aimed to help participants detect early warning signs and understand the importance of preventive healthcare. Common risk factors discussed during the event included:
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Family history of kidney disease
Poor nutrition and unhealthy lifestyle habits
Early detection can lead to better treatment outcomes and help prevent serious complications.
In addition to supporting the screenings, the Eso Kidney Alive Foundation played an active role in organizing the event and ensuring participants were properly attended to throughout the process.
The outreach also focused on educating the public about kidney disease and the importance of maintaining healthy kidneys through daily lifestyle choices and routine medical checks.
Drink enough water
Eat a balanced diet
Exercise regularly
Avoid self-medication
Monitor blood pressure and blood sugar
Seek medical advice early when symptoms appear
By combining education with action, the event created lasting value for everyone who attended.
The successful World Kidney Day 2025 program in Edo State is another example of how the Eso Kidney Alive Foundation is making a real difference through community-based healthcare initiatives.
For many participants, the event provided valuable information, free access to screening, and a greater understanding of how to protect their kidney health.
we encourage individuals, private entities, and public establishments to partner with us by providing any form of support that they can offer.
